The single biggest differentiator on an NP resume is whether you practice independently or under physician collaboration. If you work in a full-practice-authority state like Oregon, Arizona, or Montana, say so explicitly. Name your prescriptive authority level (Schedule II–V vs. Schedule III–V) and your DEA registration status. A hiring manager at a health system needs to know whether you can see patients autonomously on day one.
NPs are providers, not bedside nurses. Your resume needs to read like a provider’s CV, not an RN resume. “Manage an independent patient panel of 1,200” and “average 18–22 encounters per day” tell a clinic director exactly what volume you can handle. Without numbers, the hiring manager has no way to gauge your capacity.
NP hiring screens for specialty match before almost anything else. FNP-C, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, PNP-BC — the certification determines which patients you can see. If you hold dual certifications, list both. If your clinical focus within a specialty is specific (e.g., diabetes management within family practice, or substance use disorders within psych-mental health), surface it in your summary and bullets.
Hospital-based NPs use Epic or Cerner/Oracle Health. Outpatient and private practice NPs use Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or Practice Fusion. Naming the right system signals day-one productivity. If you have experience with e-prescribing platforms (Surescripts, EPCS) or telehealth platforms, include those too — telehealth is a growing percentage of NP encounters.
Include the ones you actually have. Leave out the ones you’d struggle to discuss in an interview.
