- SQL — the foundation of everything. You will write SQL every single day as an analytics engineer. Not just basic
SELECTstatements — you need to be fluent in CTEs (common table expressions), window functions (ROW_NUMBER,LAG,LEAD,SUM() OVER), complex multi-table joins, subqueries, and aggregation patterns. You should be able to look at a messy raw table and mentally design the transformations needed to produce a clean, analysis-ready model.
